Iowa went out and tried to rebuild the offense this offseason. The Hawkeyes landed South Dakota State QB Mark Gronowski, with the promise that the position would be more explosive.
“I think the most obvious storyline right now is the new quarterback, Mark Gronowski,” Hawkeye Report’s Tom Kakert said. “He’s certainly very talented, but Kirk Ferentz admitted that he has been rusty in practice. That means Iowa fans are concerned about his performance. My sense is he will be fine, but it’s going to be one of those things that Hawkeye fans need to see.
“I’d also say that the other storylines are at left tackle, where we haven’t gotten clarity on that front. I think it’s going to be Trevor Lauck, but we shall see. Also the Hawkeye fans are concerned about the cornerback position due to performance last year and health in fall camp involving one of the expected starters.”
Iowa-Iowa State is a traditional game of hard nosed hitting, low scoring and some crazy moments. But, this game could see a lot more offense than usual.
“Speaking of the Cyclones, I think the one prediction for the game that I feel good about is that I believe both teams will put up a decent amount of points in this contest,” Kakert said. “I picked Iowa to win a close game in my preseason prediction piece, so I will stick with that for now.”
