BYU opened with a 69-0 shellacking over Portland State while the Cardinal had a bye this weekend. Stanford opened its season the week before with a 23-20 loss at Hawaii. Hawaii followed that win up with a 40-6 loss Saturday night at Arizona.

Stanford will be a much tougher test than Portland State, which isn’t saying much. The Cardinal may be the second easiest team on BYU’s schedule and the worst team in the ACC. Stanford lost several players to the portal after Troy Taylor’s abrupt firing, including brothers Bear and Tiger Bachmeier to BYU. Stanford starts sixth-year senior and Oregon State transfer Ben Gulbranson at QB, who threw for 109 yards, 0 TDs, and 1 interception on 15/30 passing versus Hawaii in the opener. The one bright spot on offense appears to be sophomore running back Micah Ford. Ford had 309 rushing yards as a freshman last season, and followed that up 113 rushing yards and 1 touchdown versus Hawaii.

The game kicks off at 8:15 pm MT on ESPN.
