After a tense faceoff last week, India and Pakistan are set to meet again in Dubai during the ongoing Asia Cup, renewing one of cricket's fiercest rivalries.
While the Sept. 14 match itself passed without incident, with India winning the group match by seven wickets, controversy erupted after the winning team refused to shake hands with Pakistan and the latter alleging match referee Andy Pycroft supported both teams not shaking hands. Indian cricket team captain Suryakumar Yadav dedicated their victory to the armed forces back home.
The Sept. 14 match marked the first meeting of the two nuclear armed neighbors since a four-day military conflict in May.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after the match called for Pycroft's immediate removal for a code of conduct "violation" and considered withdrawing from the tournament before going ahead with Sept. 17's match against United Arab Emirates, Reuters reported. PCB, in a post on social media, said Pycroft had apologized for his actions and described the incident as a result of miscommunication.
Pakistan, so far, has won two of three matches it played, beating hosts UAE to qualify for the Super Fours. Defending champions India, meanwhile, won all three matches it played, beating Pakistan, UAE and Oman.
Bilateral cricket between India and Pakistan has been suspended since 2013 and the rivals only play each other in multi-team tournaments. The two countries could meet for a third time at the tournament if they both reach the final.
The 50-over Asia Cup, touted as "celebration of Asian cricket," began on Sept. 9 in the UAE. The final for the 17th edition of the cricket tournament is scheduled for Sept. 28.

Pakistan and India will meet on Sunday, Sept. 21 at 10:30 a.m. ET for the 2025 Asia Cup Super Four match at Dubai International Stadium.
