The Boston Red Sox have had a sloppy September, losing games left and right due to pitiful effort from the offense. However, that might change for the last week of the regular season.

According to Boston Globe’s Pete Abraham, Sox Gold Glove outfielder Wilyer Abreu is with the team in Tampa Bay today, and will be activated for tomorrow

This is probably the best news the Red Sox can receive at the moment. With their piddling offense, the slugging bat of Abreu could be a lifesaver.

This season, Abreu has slashed .253/.325/.486/.811 with 16 doubles, 22 home runs, and 69 RBI. He also is a defensive wizard, winning his first Gold Glove last season in right field.

With eight games left in the Sox’ season, getting Abreu back now is lifesaving. He’ll be on the team when they face two more giants in the Toronto Blue Jays and the Detroit Tigers.

With Abreu back, having his power bat in the lineup makes the Sox a whole lot scarier to those contenders. Hopefully the Sox get the performance from Abreu that they so desperately need, so they can cling to that final Wild Card spot.
