Iowa Cubs
The Iowa Cubs were dirtied up by the Toledo Mud Hens (Tigers), 4-2.
Iowa starter Jaxon Wiggins walked the first two batters he faced and then gave up a three-run home run to the third batter he faced, Eduardo Valencia. He settled down after that, but Wiggins still got the loss. Wiggins’ final line was three runs on three hits over four innings. He walked four and struck out six.
Daniel Palencia relieved Wiggins to start the fifth and allowed one unearned run on two hits over two-thirds of an inning. Palencia struck out two and walked no one. Palencia did throw 21 pitches and 15 of them were strikes.
Austin Gomber tossed three scoreless innings of relief and surrendered just two hits. He struck out one and walked no one.
Left fielder James Triantos hit a solo home run in the fifth inning, his seventh of the year. Triantos was 2 for 4 with a stolen base.
Right fielder Parker Chavers tripled and scored later in the fifth inning. Chavers went 1 for 4.
