The Nebraska Cornhuskers faced off against the Michigan Wolverines on Saturday, and the game didn’t disappoint. The only downside was that the Cornhuskers came away with a loss—clearly disappointing for fans. However, after the game, quarterback and team leader Dylan Raiola made it clear this wasn’t going to be rock bottom—and he put the rest of the NCAA on notice.
“A lot of people think this might break us. I’m just telling you right now, we’re going to come together and do something scary,” Raiola told the media.
Raiola is widely recognized for his striking resemblance to Patrick Mahomes—not just in appearance, but in his playing mechanics as well. It’s a comparison Raiola has addressed directly when asked.
“Everybody be like, 'Oh, he wants to be like him,' and all this stuff," Raiola said on CBS Sports Confidential Conversations. "It just so happens he played baseball, I played baseball. He plays quarterback, I play quarterback ... I can't get mad at God for making me look like him."
On Saturday, the sophomore quarterback was publicly criticized by NFL insider James Palmer, who blasted Raiola for leaning too far into the Mahomes comparisons.
“I’m sorry you can’t copy everything a NFL player does, from his pregame routine, walk, haircut, throwing motion, number, hand signals, the list goes on and on … and then say I’m my own guy and I have my own last name. You are the one that created all of this. So bizarre,” Palmer posted.

Palmer clearly isn't a fan of how Raiola is handling the comparisons. The young quarterback seems to have embraced the label and run with it.
That said, Raiola still needs to carve out his own identity. If he continues modeling himself so closely after Mahomes, he may need to take a step back and reassess. Raiola hasn’t yet come close to matching Mahomes’ success—or delivering consistent wins for the Cornhuskers.
