We break down the fantasy football outlook of Nick Chubb ahead of Week 3
The Houston Texans are now 0-2 after losing to the Buccaneers on Monday night. Their offensive line continues to flail, while their running game does the same. Last year’s lead back, Joe Mixon, continues to deal with a foot injury, while Nick Chubb has taken over as the lead back. Chubb has 25 carries for 101 yards and a touchdown, while catching two passes on three targets for 29 more yards. Those aren’t horrific numbers through two games, but they aren’t great either. One quirky addendum to those stats is that it appears the Buccaneers allowed Chubb to score with 2:10 left on the clock so they could get the ball back. And it worked, as Rachaad White scored a two-yard touchdown with :06 left on the clock. Before that 25-yard touchdown run, Chubb had rushed 11 times for 18 yards. If we take that play away, he has 24 carries for 76 yards and no touchdowns. Of course, he might have scored on that drive anyway, but it doesn’t look great that his longest run of the year was on a play the defense gave him.
Below, we’ll go over Nick Chubb’s outlook in fantasy football for Week 3.
Fantasy Football analysis: Texans, RB, Nick Chubb
The Texans get a good matchup this week against the Jaguars defense. So far, the Jaguars have done a good job of stopping opposing running backs. Last week they held Chase Brown to 47 rushing yards on 16 carries and before that they held Chuba Hubbard to 57 yards on 16 caries. If that pattern holds up, Chubb will get 37 yards on 16 carries! No, that isn’t logical, but wouldn’t it be nice if things were that predictable? Anyway, I wouldn’t be all that surprised by a line like that, but I doubt he’d get that many attempts if he was getting nowhere. So far he’s averaging 13.5 touches per game.
Start or sit in Week 3 PPR leagues?
Start. It is always a little difficult to sit a lead back, even when they don’t get much receiving work. They get their 10-15 touches per game and you just have to hope one of those touches turns into a touchdown the defense olés him into the end zone. As long as you can start three running backs, I’m likely starting Chubb as a RB3/flex. Hopefully you have a better option though, as his floor is super low.
Start or sit in Week 3 standard leagues?
Start. Same rationale as above.
