Jonnu Smith start or sit: Week 3 fantasy football advice

We break down the fantasy football outlook of XX ahead of Week X

Steelers OC Arthur Smith loves to use tight ends in his offense, but he now has two starting caliber players at the position and they are splitting touches evenly. Jonnu Smith has nine receptions on 10 targets while Pat Freiermuth has six receptions on nine targets. Smith has found the end zone once, but only has 42 receiving yards on those nine receptions. Smith appears to have more touchdown upside, as he can be used in more ways at the goal line than Freiermuth, so I lean Smith’s side between the two, but the usage numbers aren’t great so far.

Below, we’ll go over Jonnu Smith’s outlook in fantasy football for Week 3.

Fantasy Football analysis: Steelers, TE, Jonnu Smith

Last year we saw Smith put up strong numbers in Mike McDaniel’s offense averaging just 6.5 targets per game, so there is precedent for him to do well on limited work. Unfortunately, he’s not getting targets deep enough downfield just yet and at five per game so far, he still needs more.

The Patriots pass defense has been awful so far this year, especially without Christian Gonzalez, but if you aren’t getting opportunities, it’s going to be hard to score fantasy points.

Start or sit in Week 3 PPR leagues?

Sit. Until Smith can win more work, he remains too risky to start in most fantasy leagues.

Start or sit in Week 3 standard leagues?

Sit.
