The high school football season continued in Pennsylvania last week, as many of the top programs in the Keystone State were in action. Plenty of interesting results followed. St. Joseph’s Prep earned its first win of the season, North Allegheny overcame a double-digit deficit and Upper Saint Clair found itself in a back-and-forth battle with McKeesport.

Another jam-packed slate is on deck as teams continue their quests for a state title. Below are the top 25 Pennsylvania high school football teams, according to the Massey Ratings, as of Sept. 21.

1. La Salle College (4-0)

The Explorers were idle last weekend but remain atop the Pennsylvania high school football rankings. La Salle College is 4-0 on the season, and a big reason for that has been the overall play of senior quarterback Gavin Sidwar (Missouri commit). The team also features a pair of Notre Dame commitments in safety Joey O’Brien and offensive tackle Grayson McKeogh. The Explorers have a big road matchup against No. 9 Roman Catholic on Friday.

2. Central Catholic (4-1)

Vikings junior running back Roman Thompson rushed for three touchdowns in the team’s 59-7 romp over Hempfield Area. Central Catholic will take its four-game winning streak on the road this week against No. 7 North Allegheny.

3. St. Joseph’s Prep School (1-3)

The Hawks finally earned their first win of the season, shutting out Maryland power Good Counsel 24-0 on Saturday to push their record to 1-3. St. Joseph’s Prep is heavily favored to notch another win this Friday against Father Judge before a massive Pennsylvania high school football showdown with No. 1 La Salle College.

4. Malvern Prep (3-1)

The Friars edged out Salesianum, the top-ranked team in Delaware, 17-14, on Friday night. Malvern Prep trailed 7-3 with 10 minutes to play but roared back to win its third game in a row. The team will host Washington, D.C. power Gonzaga this week.

5. Harrisburg (5-0)

The Cougars blanked Cedar Cliff 42-0 on Saturday. The game was fairly competitive early, with Harrisburg only leading 14-0 at halftime, but the home team broke things wide-open in the second half. The Cougars will face winless Carlisle Area this Friday.

6. Peters Township (4-0)

The Indians have now outscored their four opponents this season 140-14 following their 28-0 win over West Allegheny on Friday. Senior quarterback Nolan DiLucia tossed a pair of touchdowns in the victory, while Cole Neupaver rushed for 166 yards and two touchdowns. Next up for Peters Township is a high-profile Pennsylvania high school football matchup against No. 10 Upper Saint Clair.

7. North Allegheny (5-0)

The Tigers rallied from a 10-point deficit to beat Norwin on Friday night, 20-17. North Allegheny leaned on its special teams and defense in the win — sophomore Caden Petro blocked a punt, senior safety Cam Kushner logged a key interception and senior defensive lineman Lincoln Hoke finished with 11 tackles and a sack. The Tigers will host No. 2 Central Catholic this Friday.

8. Pine-Richland (4-1)

The Rams routed Plum, 56-14 on Friday night to push their record to 4-1 on the season. Junior quarterback Aaron Strader completed 11 of 15 passes for 206 yards and three touchdowns and added 57 yards and another score on the ground. Pine-Richland will continue its season Friday night against Fox Chapel Area.

9. Roman Catholic (2-2)

The Cahillite were idle last week, no doubt regrouping from their 44-7 loss to DeMatha Catholic. Roman Catholic will host arguably the top Pennsylvania high school football game of the week when it welcomes No. 1 La Salle College on Friday night.

10. Upper Saint Clair (5-0)

The Panthers maintained their perfect record with a hard-fought 17-14 victory over McKeesport on Friday. Upper Saint Clair will return to action on Friday with a matchup against No. 6 Peters Township.
