The Iowa Hawkeyes are known for their traditional, field-position-focused approach, where punting plays a key strategic role in controlling the game's momentum.
When talking about Iowa and punting, Tory Taylor must be mentioned. In the 2023 season, Taylor, who won the Ray Guy Award as the nation's most outstanding collegiate punter, set the NCAA single-season punting yards record with 4,479 yards on 93 punts. This broke a mark that had stood for 85 years. Taylor also averaged an NCAA-record 48.2 yards per punt that season and was a unanimous first-team All-American.
