The Eagles complete the comeback and stun the Rams
When the Philadelphia Eagles left the field for halftime Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams, the boo birds were out at Lincoln Financial Field. The Eagles turned in a dreadful performance in the first half, netting -1 yards in the passing game and putting up just 34 total yards of offense as they trailed 19-7. Those same boo birds were more enraged early in the third quarter as Kyren Williams scampered into the end zone on a ten-yard touchdown pass from Matthew Stafford to stake the Rams to a 26-7 lead.
Those boo birds were roaring when the clock reached zero.
The Eagles came roaring back following the Williams touchdown, scoring 26 unanswered points to complete the comeback, stun the Rams, and give Philadelphia fans something to cheer about.
But they needed two tremendous plays from their massive defensive tackles, Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis, to complete the comeback.
After the Eagles were stopped on 4th-and-7 right at midfield early in the fourth quarter, while trailing 26-21, the Rams had a chance to extend their lead when Joshua Karty came on to try a short 36-yard field goal.
Carter had another idea:
Carter’s block kept the score at 26-21 and gave the Eagles a chance to take the lead on their ensuing possession. They did just that, as Jalen Hurts engineered a 17-play, 91-yard drive — Carter was flagged for taunting after the blocked field goal to push the Eagles offense back to start their possession — connecting with DeVonta Smith on 4th-and-goal from the six-yard line to give the Eagles a 27-26 lead with under two minutes remaining:
That was more than enough time for Stafford to get the Rams into field goal range, and the veteran quarterback did just that. Sparked by a big kickoff return from Blake Corum, the Rams offense crossed midfield on a connection from Stafford to Puka Nacua, and a run from Williams got Los Angeles down to the Eagles’ 26-yard line with only seconds remaining.
That brought Karty onto the field to attempt a 44-yard field goal to win the game.
This time it was Davis who denied the kick, and added a little flair of his own:
Not only did Davis block the field goal to preserve the win, but he scooped up the loose ball and absolutely motored into the end zone for the touchdown.
Chasing Stafford down on a 3rd-and-2 earlier in the game was already impressive from Davis, but the big man was MOVING on this play.
And he gave those boo birds something to roar about along the way.
