5 takeaways from the New York Jets' 29-27 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Here are five quick observations from the Jets' 29-27 loss to the Buccaneers in Week 3.

The New York Jets surprisingly were close for a bit in the end, but still fell to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 3.

At Raymond James Stadium, the Jets (0-3) lost their first road game of the season to the Bucs (3-0) in a XX-XX final.

For much of Sunday, the Green and White felt like the much lesser team and on a different level. However, the Jets did eventually cut it close before falling in unsurprising fashion in the end.

With that, here are Jets Wire's five takeaways from the Jets' loss to the Buccaneers:

There was some fight

Well you have to give it to the Jets. They did manage to make this a two-point game... but it was an odd one. New York still feels a ways away from a team like the Bucs.

Even with some scores from offense, nothing looked too exciting. Defensively, there are plenty of issues. The Jets are supposed to be a team led by their defense and they are anything but that. Head coach Aaron Glenn has to work it out.

Tyrod not overly inspiring

Tyrod Taylor took over quarterback duties for the injured Justin Fields (concussion). While Taylor was 26-for-36 passing for 197 yards with two touchdowns... his pick-six interception was the difference maker that will stand out.

At this point, there is no reason not to go back to Fields once he is heathly.

Tough day for O-line

Just an overall brutal day for the Jets' offensive line. New York and everyone in the NFL knows the Buccaneers are going the bring pressure on defense. They like to blitz. The Bucs did a lot. The Jets just couldn't stop it, leaving their playmakers in terrible positions to make plays.

Too run heavy

While the Jets do have a talented running back room, it's leaned on too heavily. Over the past two weeks, offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand tries to establish a rushing attack... but New York ends up getting behind on the scoreboard and do not have the passing game to keep opponents honest.

Not a clutch defense

Already noted was the defense, but specifically, the clutch gene is just not there. Somehow, between a Taylor touchdown pass and blocked field goal, the Jets were in striking distance.

Lean on the defense? Good like doing that, 2025 Jets. They haven't proven they can stop much of anyone, specifically in the passing game with the holes in the secondary and lack of pass rush.
