Baker Mayfield is thankful for one receiver's performance.
Buccaneers thankful for 'old reliable' in close Jets win originally appeared on The Sporting News
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers narrowly beat the New York Jets 29-27 thanks to a last-second field goal from Chase McLaughlin, as Todd Bowles' team continues to power forward this season.
Granted, it wasn't the best of games from the Buccaneers, but they managed to get the win, and that was despite missing Mike Evans as he reportedly suffered a hamstring injury during the game.
That meant others had to step up, and one such player was veteran Sterling Shepard, who became one of Baker Mayfield's go-to targets, hauling in four receptions for 80 yards in what was a continuation of his early-season form.
And yeah, Mayfield was happy with Shepard's performance.
“Shep, just old reliable,” Mayfield said. “He's my crazy lunatic that I continue to lean on. He continues to find ways to win in man coverage and be there in clutch moments for us.”

How long is Mike Evans out for?
Given how volatile hamstring injuries can be, Evans could be fine to go next week against the Philadelphia Eagles, or he could miss a month or so as he recovers.
Not much information is known about Evans' reported injury, but the fact that he didn't return to the game likely tells us all is not well with the Pro Bowl receiver.
With Evans possibly out, along with Chris Godwin, Emeka Egbuka now becomes a huge weapon for Mayfield and the Buccaneers, along with Shepard, as both will now be tasked with picking up the slack.
Either way, it appears offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard might have to do without Evans, at least for next week. But fingers are crossed.
