When the Giants score 4 runs in the first inning, they somehow lose every time

This is almost impossible to believe.

The San Francisco Giants had dreams of the NL Wild Card and a spot in the postseason.

Frankly, when they made the splash trade for Rafael Devers, it seems hard to believe that they wouldn't have found their way to the playoffs by the end of the season.

But the Giants are on the outside looking in with only a week left in the MLB regular season, and there's a really obvious reason.

Three times in the last nine days, the Giants have scored four runs in the first inning and gone on to lose.

That just can't happen.

They did it on Sept. 13, Sept. 16 and Sept. 20. The stat came courtesy of Codify Baseball.

In that same span, no team in MLB aside from the Giants has had this level of flub.

Obviously, scoring that early gives the other team plenty of time to make up ground.

By the same token, the Giants could keep pushing runs across, or they could find a way to more efficiently get outs defensively, including strong pitching.

But for now, the Giants keep blowing early leads.

And to put it simply, that's just not how you get to the playoffs.
