As much as his performances warrant critique, he also deserves sympathy for his difficult situation.
Unfortunately, Sacha Boey’s transfer to Bayern Munich has been far from a smashing success. Though he has remained in and around the squad, multiple injuries and underwhelming performances have seen the 25-year-old struggle to make a real impression on the team. There will also have been Bayern fans who winced upon seeing Boey get subbed on to the pitch in a crucial Champions League match against Chelsea FC, but they proved unwarranted as Boey put in a superb performance to help Bayern see out the win.
Speaking on Boey’s performance, Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund was clearly very happy for the unfortunate Frenchman.
“He came on unprepared because [Josip] Stanišić got injured. It was a moment when Chelsea were still in the game at 2-1. He seemed to win every challenge, played a really good game and set up Michael Olise’s huge chance. He played a top game, and I’m extremely happy for him,” Freund said, as captured by @iMiaSanMia. “His time here so far hasn’t been easy; he was injured a lot in the beginning. It’s not easy for him, but when you see how he’s working in training, I’m just happy for him that he’s shown his worth again over a longer period of time in an important game. It’s a good story; everyone was very, very happy with him.”
Hopefully, this match will have helped Boey find that bit of confidence to start a good run of form.
