After reports emerged last week that RB Leipzig are considering extending Péter Gulácsi’s contract, which expires this summer, the 35-year-old goalkeeper has confirmed that he would like to sign a new deal.
“We’ll see what the future holds,” Gulácsi told Sky Germany following Leipzig’s 3-1 win over 1. FC Köln at the weekend.
“I always play with my cards on the table. I’m very happy here in Leipzig with my family, and of course I would be delighted if it continues beyond this season.”
At 35, Gulácsi has so far maintained his status ahead of the 12-years-younger Maarten Vandevoordt, though questions remain about how long that can continue.
“We’ve always had a very open exchange with the sporting leadership, and I know exactly where I stand. We are in a process of rejuvenating the squad, and I’m no longer the youngest. I try to contribute with my experience and quality,” the veteran added.
