The Georgia Bulldogs remain the No. 1 team in our SEC football power rankings entering the Alabama game
The SEC is the best conference in college football and the rankings in the US LBM Coaches Poll indicate that. The SEC has six of the top 11 teams in the country and 10 teams in the top 25.
The SEC had just two conference games in Week 4 with Missouri notching a key win over South Carolina and Auburn falling to Oklahoma. Missouri withstood a solid performance from South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers. Missouri held South Carolina to a negative rushing total.
The Auburn Tigers had plenty of opportunities to defeat the Oklahoma Sooners on the road, but Auburn struggled in pass protection and allowed 10 sacks (an Oklahoma school record). Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer continued to impress while Auburn's Jackson Arnold took too long to pass.
The conference had a pair of games against Group of Five College Football Playoff contenders. Arkansas coughed up a late fumble for a second consecutive week and missed a golden opportunity to beat Memphis, who gashed Arkansas' defense for 290 rushing yards. Ole Miss dominated against Tulane to move to 4-0.
LSU, Vanderbilt, Mississippi State, Texas and Tennessee all took care of business and got wins against inferior nonconference opponents in Week 4. In the SEC's lone nonconference game against a Power Four opponent, Florida stood tall for a while against Miami, but a lackluster passing game (61 passing yards) really held Florida, who is now 1-3, back.
Four SEC teams had byes in Week 4. Georgia and Alabama both had byes in preparation for the Georgia-Alabama game in Week 5. Texas A&M and Kentucky also had bye weeks.
