Real Madrid maintains its boycott after the 'snub' felt in 2024
Florentino Pérez
Real Madrid will not take part in the 2025 Ballon d'Or ceremony at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris this Monday, September 22, 2025. The Madrid club remains firm in its boycott started last year following Rodri's win over Vinicius Jr. Despite attempts at reconciliation from France Football, Los Blancos are sticking to their stance.
Real Madrid is holding its ground, refusing to attend the prestigious Parisian gala. A delegation from France Football recently traveled to the Spanish capital to try and persuade the club's management to reconsider, but talks failed to yield a breakthrough. As in the 2024 edition, no official club representative will make the trip to the Théâtre du Châtelet on Monday night.

The club's position has remained unshakeable since the controversy in 2024. Real Madrid is still unwilling to accept that Vinicius Jr lost out on the award last year to Rodri, Manchester City's midfield maestro. That frustration has led to a diplomatic rift with the organizers of the most prestigious individual prize in world football.
