With veteran running back James Conner sidelined for the rest of the season due to an ankle injury, the Arizona Cardinals' backfield belongs to Trey Benson. For the second-year RB, this moment is personal and an opportunity to honor his mentor.

"I don't have a choice," he said. "I'm going to do it for [Conner]. He's going to be my motivation for the rest of the year and I can't wait."

ESPN's Josh Weinfuss reported that Benson referred to Conner as "a mentor" and credited the veteran for helping him reach this point in his career.

Benson had a promising start to his season with 125 yards on 21 carries and eight receptions for 45 yards. The offense will now lean heavily on him and fellow backs Emari Demercado and Bam Knight, while Michael Carter remains an option for added depth.

"I feel like I'll be ready for the task," Benson added.

Conner's injury forced an abrupt change atop the depth chart, but Benson is fully prepared to step up and take over the responsibility.
