Tottenham Hotspur have started the season with real purpose with North London club winning three of their first five Premier League matches, including 2-0 win against Manchester City.

Thomas Frank replaced Ange Postecoglou after a poor Premier League run last year. Spurs made key signings including Xavi Simons, Mohammed Kudus, Randal Kolo Muani and Kota Takai.

Former Brentford manager also signed Joao Palhinha on loan from Bayern Munich with a £27m [$36m] buy option.

Portuguese star’s impact has already been seen as decisive with the 30-year-old anchoring Spurs’ midfield and providing experience alongside defensive solidity.

His presence has drawn comparisons to the league’s best holding midfielders, further proving the value of his acquisition.

Tottenham keen on making Palhinha deal permanent

Senior Football journalist Graeme Bailey believes Tottenham are already preparing to make deal permanent.

“He’s exactly what they expected. When he left, he was already one of the Premier League’s best holding midfielders. Watching Palhinha play in that position probably frustrates Manchester United fans, knowing he was available and could have joined them,” Bailey said [via TBR Football]

“To make matters worse, he would have been exactly what United needed. But yes, he’s absolutely top class. I fully expect discussions about a permanent deal to begin in January once the transfer window opens.

“They may even try to finalise the permanent deal sooner. He’s very happy in London, and I don’t see him moving elsewhere. Tottenham are fortunate that there’s really no other club in London that could challenge them”

“From what I hear, he’s as good as they claim. Since returning, he hasn’t missed a beat. Tottenham are thrilled with him, they genuinely believe they have one of the best midfielders in the Premier League, and it seems they do.”
