NC State opened as a 7.5-point home favorite against Virginia Tech, with that line quickly moving to 10.5. SP+ likes State by 10 points. This is a critical bounce-back game for the Pack, which has Campbell next, then a really tough five-game stretch to follow.
Sometimes a mid-season coaching change provides a team with a short-term emotional jolt, but in Virginia Tech’s case, who knows. Interim head coach and offensive coordinator Philip Montgomery is in his first (and likely only) season with the Hokies and doesn’t exactly have an extensive history with these players.
Montgomery was part of a major offseason overhaul by Pry that also included a new defensive coordinator. Sometimes big changes pay off, and other times you’re Brent Pry.
