Patriots' Rhamondre Stevenson made the worst kind of Tom Brady history for New England

Just about the only thing you don't want to copy from TB12.

Tom Brady did so many magnificent things in his NFL career. You'd think it's a good thing if a current New England Patriots player joins TB12 in the history books.

Just not for the reason Rhamondre Stevenson did on Sunday in the Pats' Week 3 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Stevenson lost two fumbles in the defeat.

He was the first Pats player to lose two fumbles in the same game since 2014, when Brady did it, according to ESPN.

"After losing a fumble on the opening drive of the game, and then at the goal line at the start of the second half, Stevenson was used sparingly for the remainder of the game," ESPN's Mike Reiss wrote. "Coach Mike Vrabel notably kept Stevenson on the sideline for 11 straight snaps after the second fumble. He then turned almost exclusively to rookie TreVeyon Henderson and Antonio Gibson at running back the rest of the way. (Stevenson played just two snaps after his second lost fumble). Stevenson's five lost fumbles since the start of the 2024 season are the most of any NFL running back."

Patriots fans have already been clamoring to see more of Henderson, the explosive rookie out of Ohio State. This might be the chance for his workload to increase.

Gibson is also a trustworthy veteran who can be used in a variety of circumstances.

Maybe the Patriots give Stevenson another extended chance soon, but it also wouldn't be shocking to see them go on a different path and try to avoid the fumbles.

Brady isn't coming back to save the day. The least the Patriots can do is protect the football.
