The No. 1-ranked Trinity and No. 2 St. Xavier football teams will meet at 8 p.m. Friday at U of L's L&N Stadium; what to know about tickets and more.
The St. Xavier-Trinity high school football game always is a big draw, but the rivalry takes on a bit more significance when both programs are highly ranked.
Such is the case for this year’s showdown as Trinity is ranked No. 1 in the media’s Class 6A poll and St. Xavier is No. 2.
Friday’s matchup will be the 94th in the series and is set for an 8 p.m. kickoff at the University of Louisville's L&N Stadium.
Here’s what to know about the game:
Matchup
St. X (3-1) suffered its first loss of the season Friday, falling 26-24 to Cincinnati Elder.
Trinity (4-1) enters with a two-game winning streak after trouncing Male 46-0 on Friday.
Coaches
Kevin Wallace is in his eighth season at St. X and has a 65-25 record. He led the Tigers to the Class 6A state title in 2021. Wallace has announced this is his final season as St. X’s head coach.
Jay Cobb is in his fifth season at Trinity and has a 43-19 record. He led the Shamrocks to back-to-back Class 6A state titles in 2023 and 2024.
History
Trinity holds a 50-41-2 lead in the series that began in 1956.
St. X won last year’s meeting 16-10 in a game that was moved from Friday to Saturday and played at St. X because of the remnants of Hurricane Helene passing through Louisville.
The all-time attendance record for the series came in 2008, when 38,872 showed up for the Tigers’ 30-6 victory.

Parking
Parking passes for the Bronze and Platinum lots will be available this week at both schools for $20, with a limit of four per person. Parking in the Purple lot is $15 cash and is paid at the lot.
Tailgating
Trinity and St. X released a joint statement explaining their decision to open parking lots two hours later than normal for pregame tailgating.
“Administrators from Trinity and St. X send out communications asking fans to refrain from bringing alcohol to the tailgating experience for this game. A high school sporting event is not the place for alcohol consumption.
“In recent years, unsupervised children in the parking lots during pregame tailgating has created an unsafe environment. It is a danger to the children who are not supervised, and it is a danger to drivers of vehicles trying to navigate the parking lots.
“In response to this issue, one major change will occur this year regarding pregame tailgating: The parking lots will now open at 5 p.m. instead of 3 p.m.”
Radio/livestream
Both schools will have radio broadcasts — 96.1 FM/1450 AM for the St. X broadcast and 970 AM for the Trinity broadcast. There will not be a video livestream of the game.
