And well deserved too
Barcelona stars Lamine Yamal and Vicky Lopez have been named the winners of the 2025 Kopa Trophy at Monday’s Ballon d’Or awards.
Yamal picked up the prize – given to the best young player in the world – for the second year running, while Lopez secured the women’s award.
“It’s an honor to be here again. I want to thank Barcelona and the national team. Also, my family. I don’t want to forget my teammates, like Cubarsí and Raphinha, who we can also see here,” said Yamal in his acceptance speech. “I don’t know if I’m ready for the big trophy! Maybe we’ll see each other later.”
Yamal is also up for the main prize along with Ousmane Dembele.
Lopez also spoke after receiving her prize and dedicated the award to her late mother.
“Thank you to my family. I dedicate this to my mother, who watches over me from heaven and is protecting me so I can become a better person. I hope you’re proud of me; I miss you,” she said.
