Joel Klatt updates top ten after week of upsets and blowouts. Where is Ohio State?

We break down Joel Klatt's top ten teams as he sees them and whether we agree or not. Where does he have Ohio State after Week 4?

Ohio State football was off this week, preparing for a road trip to Washington, but there was plenty of other action happening in week four of college football. There were some big-time conference matchups, a couple of upsets, and some unexpected blowouts. It's what makes college football so great ... You just never know what's going to happen week to week.

With the Buckeyes on a bye week, Joel Klatt made his picks once again for his personal top ten teams in the country. Ohio State has held steady at No. 1 in Klatt's rankings all year, but did any other teams take advantage of opportunities to move up and maybe even past the Bucks? Where is Penn State? What about Oregon? How about the Miami Hurricanes? Time to see if there were any movers and shakers after week four.

No. 10 - Texas Longhorns

Last week's ranking: No. 8

What we think

Texas continues to fall in Klatt's eyes, and we think it's justified. The defense is one of the best in the country, but Arch Manning still has a lot to prove against good competition. He may have thrown for more than 300 yards in a 55-0 drubbing of Sam Houston State, but the taunting (that should have been an unsportsmanlike penalty) tells us he's feeling the pressure.

No. 9 - Indiana Hoosiers

Last week's ranking: N/A

What we think

Well, well, well, would you look at who's back in the top ten? If it isn't Curt "Google me" Cignetti and the Indiana Hoosiers. Everyone thought last year was a fluke. Maybe it wasn't. The Hoosiers throttled No. 9 Illinois 63-10 this past weekend. Indiana still has some heavy lifting to do with both Oregon and Penn State on the schedule, but Cignetti could have the Hoosiers in the college football playoff two years in a row.

No. 8 - Oklahoma Sooners

Oklahoma Sooners quarterback John Mateer (10) dives past Auburn Tigers safety Kaleb Harris (8) to score a touchdown during a college football game between the University of Oklahoma Sooners (OU) and the Auburn Tigers at Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman, Okla., Saturday,Sept. 20, 2025. Oklahoma won 24-17.

Last week's ranking - No. 7

What we think

The Sooners got another win over a ranked opponent... and they dropped? It doesn't make sense in our opinion. There are teams ahead of Oklahoma on this list who have zero wins against current ranked opponents. The Sooners get one more cupcake in Kent State before playing ranked opponents in six of their last seven contests.

No. 7 - LSU Tigers

Bauer Sharp 10, LSU Tigers take on the Southeastern Louisiana. Sept 20, 2025; Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA; at Tiger Stadium.

Last week's ranking - No. 2

What we think

That week one win over Clemson is looking less and less impressive. And really, LSU has looked more and more pedestrian. The Tigers head to Oxford to take on No. 13 Ole Miss. LSU fans might be calling for Brian Kelly's head once again if the Tigers can't get it done against the Rebels.

No. 6 - Florida State Seminoles

Sep 20, 2025; Tallahassee, Florida, USA; Florida State Seminoles wide receiver Michai Danzy (19) scores a touchdown against the the Kent State Golden Flashes during the first half at Doak S. Campbell Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Melina Myers-Imagn Images

Last week's ranking - No. 9

What we think

Taking Kent State behind the woodshed really spoke volumes in Klatt's opinion, so much so that Florida State moved up three spots in his poll. The 'Noles look like they are back, but hopefully they don't look past a road test in Charlottesville, before a home matchup against rival Miami in two weeks.

No. 5 - Oregon Ducks

Oregon Ducks quarterback Dante Moore carries the ball as the Oregon Ducks host the Oregon State Beavers Sept. 20, 2025, at Autzen Stadium in Eugene, Oregon.

Last week's ranking - No. 3

What we think

Klatt's rankings are all over the place this week. Oregon embarrassed rival Oregon State this past weekend, and the Ducks have looked dominant in every game they've played to this point. However, we're going to find out a lot about Dan Lanning's team when they head to Happy Valley for Penn State's annual "White Out" game.

No. 4 - Penn State Nittany Lions

Sep 6, 2025; University Park, Pennsylvania, USA; Penn State Nittany Lions quarterback Drew Allar (15) lines up behind center Nick Dawkins (53) during the third quarter against the Florida International Panthers at Beaver Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Matthew O'Haren-Imagn Images

Last week's ranking - No. 4

What we think

Curious that Penn State doesn't play and stays put while Oregon was dominant in a rivalry game and dropped two spots behind the Nittany Lions. I guess Joel feels like Penn State is the better team. We'll find out on Saturday night.

No. 3 - Georgia Bulldogs

Sep 6, 2025; Athens, Georgia, USA; Georgia Bulldogs linebacker Gabe Harris Jr. (0) rushes the passer against the Austin Peay Governors in the third quarter at Sanford Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Brett Davis-Imagn Images

Last week's ranking - No. 5

What we think

Get a bye week, move up a couple of spots. Seems to be a theme this week. Georgia gets another big test this week when Alabama comes to town. It never disappoints when these two get together.

No. 2 - Miami Hurricanes

Sep 20, 2025; Miami Gardens, Florida, USA; Miami Hurricanes tight end Elija Lofton (9) hurdles over Florida Gators defensive back Devin Moore (28) during the second quarter at Hard Rock Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Sam Navarro-Imagn Images

Last week's ranking - No. 6

What we think

Miami beat a very average Florida team over the weekend. While it felt like the Hurricanes were dominating the game, the final score wasn't indicative of a dominating performance. The 'Canes get a bye week to prepare for Florida State in Tallahassee.

No. 1 - Ohio State Buckeyes

Ohio State Buckeyes wide receiver Jeremiah Smith (4) catches a 47-yard touchdown pass in front of Ohio Bobcats cornerback Michael Mack II (9) during the second half of the NCAA football game at Ohio Stadium on Sept. 13, 2025. Ohio State won 37-9.

Last week's ranking - No. 1

What we think

Ohio State has been the most complete team in the country to this point. A road trip to Seattle to take on the Washington Huskies is the next hurdle for a team looking to stay on top of the college football landscape. But don't take Washington lightly. Huskie Stadium is consistently ranked as one of the toughest places to play in the country.
