On Monday, USCHO.com announced their annual preseason poll for NCAA men’s hockey, and it featured the Boston College Eagles at #6 in the country.

BC is coming off of a season where they were #1 in the nation for most of the season, but were knocked out of the Hockey East tournament and NCAA tournament earlier than expected. Now that they are losing star forwards Ryan Leonard and Gabe Perreault, star defenseman Eamon Powell, and star goaltender Jacob Fowler, expectations for them have dipped. But they will bring back a strong team of experienced defenders and forwards, including sophomore James Hagens and UNH senior transfer Ryan Conmy.

Boston College is still a national contender with a strong corps that finished as the #2 defense in the nation last season. But behind their top line, BC lacked scoring depth as the season progressed and they scored just 1 goal in their elimination games against Northeastern and Denver. Sophomores James Hagens and Teddy Stiga have a lot of pressure on their shoulders this season, alongside veteran forwards Andre Gasseau, Oskar Jellvik, and Ryan Conmy. If they are able to perform well, BC should have a solid shot at winning Hockey East and staying competitive nationally.

What do you think? Is #6 too high of a rank for a team that still needs to prove itself? Let us know in the comments!
