Sept. 23 (UPI) -- David Montgomery raced for a career-high 151 yards, while the Detroit Lions defense sacked Lamar Jackson seven times to beat the Baltimore Ravens in Baltimore.
Montgomery, who scored twice with 31- and 1-yard runs, ripped off an additional 72-yard scamper in the 38-30 victory Monday at M&T Bank Stadium.
Fellow Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs logged 99 yards from scrimmage. The Lions out-gained the Ravens 224 to 85 on the ground.
"It's really important to keep the horse blinders on when you are in the midst of the mud," Montgomery told reporters. "We've got the best group up front in the league. They did exactly what I knew they would do and we had fun."
Aidan Hutchinson logged a sack and a crucial forced fumble on Ravens running back Derrick Henry, which was recovered by cornerback D.J. Reed. Fellow Lions edge rusher Al-Quadin Muhammad sacked Jackson 2.5 times.
"That's what happens when good coverage marries good rush, you get sacks," Hutchinson said. "That's the name of the game."
The game featured two lead changes and nine touchdowns. The high-octane attacks exchanged blows early on. The Lions went on to put together game-shifting 98- and 96-yard drives to seize momentum.
"One of the keys to victory was complementary football," Lions tackle Penei Sewell said. "On offense, we knew what our drive was. Those two [98- and 96-yard] drives was just us doing our jobs."
Lions quarterback Jared Goff completed 20 of 28 passes for 202 yards and a score. Wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown caught seven passes for 77 yards and scored on a third-quarter touchdown catch.
Jackson completed 21 of 27 passes for 288 yards and three scores, but being sacked a career-high seven times often rattled the Ravens star. Henry ran for 50 yards on 12 carries, but his fourth-quarter fumble ultimately decimated the Ravens' hopes.
The Lions added to their lead with a Jake Bates 45-yard field goal about two minutes after the turnover. Montgomery pushed that advantage to two scores with his 31-yard run with less than two minutes remaining in the Monday Night Football matchup.
"I'm trying hard every day to fix the problem," said Henry, who fumbled in each of his first three games of 2025. "It just keeps occurring. I've got to work on it."

Ravens tight end Mark Andrews caught six passes for 91 yards and two scores in the loss. Wide receiver Rashod Bateman also scored for the Ravens.
The Lions out-gained the Ravens 426 to 318 in total yards. The Ravens defense did not force a turnover or log a sack in the setback, which dropped their record to 1-2.
"As a team, I think we definitely made a statement, but that was the expectation," Lions cornerback Amik Robinson said. "It's crazy, we still feel like we've got a lot of work to do."
Jack Campbell, Derrick Barnes and Trevor Nowaske also logged sacks for the Lions. Fellow linebacker Alex Anzalone registered a half-sack of Jackson.
"At every point in this game, we were going to need each other to find a way to win this game," Lions coach Dan Campbell said.
The Lions (2-1) will host the Cleveland Browns (1-2) on Sunday in Detroit. The Ravens will battle the Kansas City Chiefs (1-2) on Sunday in Kansas City, Mo.
"Our focus right now has gotta be toward Kansas City," Ravens coach John Harbaugh said. "That's what we are going to do. Get ready for that game and get ready to go play."
