FC Barcelona have officially announced that the weekend La Liga game against Real Sociedad will be played at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys in Montjuic.
The Blaugrana were hopeful of playing the game at the renovated Spotify Camp Nou, but as confirmed earlier, the City Council denied them the First Occupancy Licence earlier today, citing some concerns with fire safety.
As such, the return to Camp Nou will not take place this month, with Barcelona now playing Sociedad in Montjuic.
“FC Barcelona informs that the match corresponding to matchday 7 of the League, on Sunday 28 September, at 6:30 p.m., against Real Sociedad, will be played at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys,” the statement read.
Explaining the situation, Barça added: “The Club continues to work to obtain the necessary administrative permits for the opening of Spotify Camp Nou in the coming days.”

“In this context, FC Barcelona has already submitted all the documentation corresponding to the communication of first occupation of Phase 1A (Tribuna and Gol Sud), as well as the responses to the documentary observations that the Barcelona City Council has forwarded so far.
“The Club is currently working on the new amendments that the council shared today.”
The Catalans had played their last two home matches this season at Estadi Johan Cruyff, where the maximum capacity is 6,000, which is below La Liga’s minimum attendance requirement of 8,000.
The league had granted special permission to use the stadium, but only for two games. And with Montjuic already set to host the Champions League opener against PSG on 1 October, Barcelona have decided it would be the logical option to hold the Sociedad clash too.
There could be some logistical challenges due to the La Mercè festival in Montjuic, but the game will go ahead at Estadi Lluis Companys.
