(world’s largest spit take) I beg your pardon?
I’ve got the documentation here. And I quote, “People are gonna have to deal with this a lot sooner than they think, because our team’s a little bit better than I thought. We’ve got a damn good team.”
He can’t do this to me. Tell him he can’t do this to me! You know what, let’s just forget all about this.
I’m afraid that’s beyond my capabilities at this point.

He is the foremost expert on the team that he put together and sees every day in practice. He’s irrefutably credible on the subject.
That’s exactly what I mean! You can’t just say these things! This is supposed to be preseason-inner-monologue-that’s-46%-irrational-hype talk, not coach-speaking-plainly talk! This isn’t normal! We can’t just sit around expecting to be good at basketball. How are we supposed to manage ourselves in a world where “coach said the team’s good and he’s probably right” has replaced “if this guy gets better, that guy grows four inches and learns to shoot, and this dude learns how to dribble, we could be a bubble team in March”? We aren’t built for it.
It’s very uncomfortable.
You see the position he’s put us in. We’re going to have to think at least twice as much about football to get this under control.
By the way, you know those players you’re excited about and think will have a good year? He specifically mentioned those players and said they’re going to have a good year.
Three times as much.
Speaking logistically, Indianapolis is not that far, so depending on how our schedule looks, we could easily drive it if we wanted to.
Yeah, let’s take a look at that tomorrow.
