The Colorado Buffaloes should be improved in the 2025-26 season. They need to be, anyway, or they’re in deep trouble in a loaded Big 12 conference schedule.

The conference released each team’s schedules today and the Buffs won’t have much time to build chemistry and confidence.

The opening five games are tough: at Arizona State, vs. Utah, vs. Texas Tech, at Cincinnati and at West Virginia. It could always be worse — only Tech made the NCAA Tournament — but the only “winnable” games — at ASU and vs. Utah — were bogey matchups in the Pac-12.

It softens a bit after that, but still difficult: vs. Kansas, vs. UCF, at Iowa State, vs. TCU, at Baylor and vs. ASU. Lots of difficult matchups, especially on the road, but two or three home games where the Buffs could even be favored.

(It’s incredibly difficult to project who’s even good in this NIL era. Every team is rebuilt and it’s anyone’s guess which teams will be good and which rosters are just names that don’t fit together on the court.)

The schedule keeps going, some games winnable, some games not. It’s nostalgic to play Arizona in the final homestand, bringing back memories of Josh Scott cooking Kaleb Tarczewski. It won’t be a close game, but it will be hostile.
