Iowa State basketball star and Ames native Tamin Lipsey suffered a knee injury in practice Tuesday.
Iowa State basketball point guard Tamin Lipsey suffered a knee sprain and will be sidelined for the next 4-to-6 weeks, the school announced Tuesday, Sept. 23.
The Cyclone senior suffered the right knee injury - a Grade 2 MCL sprain - during practice.
The timeline for the injury should allow Lipsey to be ready for Iowa State's opener against Farleigh Dickinson on Nov. 3, or shortly thereafter.
The Ames native averaged 10.6 points, 3.1 assists and 2.6 rebounds per game last season for Iowa State, which spent the bulk of last season ranked in the top-10 before injuries to both Lipsey and Keshon Gilbert contributed to a second-round exit in the NCAA Tournament.
Lipsey, a 2024 All-American, is one of the most-physical guards in both the Big 12 and the country, and he has battled injuries throughout his career. He tore an ACL in high school and has dealt with an assortment of injuries in college, including a shoulder issue that required surgery, a broken thumb and a groin strain that severely limited him last March.
Iowa State is expected to open the season ranked in the Top 25 with Lipsey along with fellow starters Joshua Jefferson and Milan Momcilovic all returning from last year's 25-10 squad.
