The 31st and final round of the 2025 SuperMotocross World Championship took place Saturday night from The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. After nine grueling months of competition, a $5 million purse sat in front of the world's top 450 class riders. The Lawrence brothers entered the night embroiled in a close championship fight. Jett left St. Louis with a six point lead over older brother Hunter. The two remained in that order for qualifying, with third place in points Eli Tomac completing the top three.
Moto 1
Hunter Lawrence grabbed the holeshot to kick off the 450 action, with Eli Tomac just behind. Tomac made a move around the #96 to take the lead a few laps later. Jett Lawrence started fourth, losing a bit of time to third place Justin Cooper early on before settling in. The points leader ended up putting on a furious charge to the front, dispatching Cooper and tracking down the front two. Lawrence made the move on Hunter in the outdoor section of the track and two laps later, flew around Tomac. Jett took the win, scoring his fifth consecutive moto victory at the SMX playoff finale. Tomac and Hunter Lawrence completed the podium. Thanks to Tomac finishing between the brothers, Jett's chances at a third consecutive playoff title increased.
Moto 2
When the second 450 moto began, Hunter Lawrence held the top spot. Eli Tomac moved to second early on, passing teammate Cooper Webb. Jett Lawrence got off to a subpar start and moved to third in the first few laps, but was a few seconds behind the top two. For the majority of the race, it seemed as if Jett may be out of the fight. With three laps to go, Jett suddenly picked up the pace and caught up to Tomac. He made quick work of the 4-time 450MX champion to sit in prime position for the overall win and the championship. Hunter Lawrence won the final moto of the season, but Jett secured the overall and his third consecutive SMX playoff championship. Unfortunately, Chase Sexton suffered a brutal crash during the race and was carted off the track. Sexton suffered a concussion and a shoulder injury in the incident, leaving his potential final race with KTM on a sour note.
