Deion Sanders has never been shy about where he stands on the changing landscape of college football. When asked about the NCAA’s decision to eliminate the spring transfer portal window, the Colorado head coach cut straight to the point.
“We going to go about our business like every other school. It’s the same rules for everyone, right? So, we going to get what we want. We always do. And when we don’t get what we want, that means somebody offered more money. That’s it,” Sanders said.
His honesty underlined a larger truth about the modern era. For Sanders, roster building is no longer just about depth charts and development, but about navigating NIL-fueled bidding wars. “We going to scout the players and hopefully we get the type of guys that’s not coming here to play for money. They coming here to play because they want to play for the Colorado Buffaloes, and they want to play up under this team and how we do things,” he explained.

The NCAA’s move condenses the transfer calendar into a single window, creating urgency for coaches across the country. Sanders made clear he is unfazed. “As long as the playing field is level for everyone, I’m good. I have no complaints.”
For Colorado, the transfer portal has been both a lightning rod and a lifeline. Sanders rebuilt nearly the entire roster in 2023 through transfers, and the strategy continues to shape the Buffs’ identity in the Big 12. Now with just one official window to strike, Sanders seems ready for the challenge.
