BYU added the second commitment to its 2026 class as Timpview HS (Provo, Utah) big man Will Openshaw announced his commitment to BYU. Will committed to BYU over offers from Stanford, Cal, Utah, and several others. Openshaw is expected to first serve a mission before enrolling at BYU for the 2028-2029 season. He is high school and AAU teammates with BYU commit Dean Rueckert, the other current BYU commit in the 2026 class.

A 6-foot-10 big, Openshaw can play either the four or five spots. He got onto the radar of more college programs this summer in AAU events with his motor, ability to run the floor, consistently dunk the ball, and hit outside shots as a stretch big. Will is currently not rated by the major recruiting services, but I anticipate he’ll get a rating the next ratings refresh.

BYU is recruiting high-end recruits, but Will projects as a four-year player who has upside with his athleticism and ability to knock down shots at 6-foot-10. He will need to get stronger as competes with Big 12 big men in his college career, but his motor and movement at his size give me a lot of excitement for what he can add as a high-end role player in his career.
