Hawk rode the board to historic trick during the 1999 X Games
The skateboard Tony Hawk rode when he successfully landed the first “900” spin during the 1999 X Games sold for $1,152,000 on Tuesday at Julien’s alongside a number of historical pieces from the sport.
Considered among the greatest moments in X Games history, Hawk rode the Birdhouse “Falcon 2” skateboard when he landed two-and-a-half aerial spins in the “Vert Best Trick” competition.
Hawk also used the board when he won gold in the “Vert Doubles” competition in 1999, Hawk last rode the skateboard earlier this year during the 2025 X Games.
More than two dozen items sold Tuesday from Tony Hawk’s “900 Collection” at Julien’s, including other items from the iconic moment. Also selling from the “900” moment include Hawk’s helmet ($115,200), knee pads ($57,600), sneakers ($64,000) and a pair of signed credential passes ($7,680).
Two skateboard decks, including one that features burns from a fire at Hawk’s home, sold for more than $50,000 each.
Prior to Tuesday’s sale, Hawk told the Associated Press he hoped the buyer would be someone who appreciated the event and it’s “not just a flex because they have the money.”
Julien’s didn’t immediately reveal the new owner of the skateboard.
According to Julien’s, a portion of the proceeds will benefit The Skateboard Project, a non-profit founded by Hawk in 2002 that helps “underserved communities create safe and inclusive public skateparks for youth.”
