Greeneville, TN — The Tennessee Vols are coming off an Elite Eight appearance, but this is far from the roster we saw Rick Barnes coach last winter.

It’s a mix of veteran transfers, promising freshmen and international talent. Tennessee native Ja’Kobi Gillispie returns home after playing at Maryland. The former Greeneville Greene Devil talks about now getting a chance to play on the same court he watched Scotty Hopson and Darnel Stokes play when his father took him to the games.

“It’s definitely surreal. I want to say weird, but yeah, just watching growing up, it’s definitely surreal being back here. I mean, yeah, coming here, that’s what I knew my role was going to be, what Coach Barnes told me. So really just taking on that role in trying to be the best leader as I can and be the best for my teammates, says Gillespie.”

Gillespie avg. 14.7, 2.8 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 45.3 field goal percentage last season at Maryland.
