Richards Bay FC striker Knox Mutizwa has lifted the lid on his unexpected departure from Golden Arrows at the back end of last season.
The prolific frontman is said to have been axed by the KZN side due to below par performances and other undisclosed reasons.
Mutizwa permanently signed for Abafana Bes’thende at the beginning of the 2017/18 campaign on the back of a season-long loan from the now-defunct Bidvest Wits.
During his spell at Arrows, the Zimbabwean goal poacher scored 63 goals with 23 assists in 231 matches across all competitions.
Now, the player has opened up on his exit at the club, admitting that it was not easy to part ways after a prolonged stay.
“I played for Golden Arrows for more than seven or eight seasons and if you stay that long [at a club], it’s very sad to leave,” said Mutizwa.
However, Mutizwa acknowledges that departing teams is part of the package as a professional footballer and expressed gratitude for the trust shown in him by the Natal Rich Boys.
“But you know as a professional player, you come and go, and I am grateful for the opportunity that I was given by Richards Bay,” he added.
Meanwhile, Richards Bay will return to Betway Premiership action with a visit from Magesi FC at uMhlathuze Sports Complex on Wednesday.
