Another important win has been secured!
The Sox are doing what’s been asked of them, by getting wins and taking series in the midst of this final gauntlet to the postseason. The Blue Jays have spooked the Sox all season, especially in Toronto, but Boston has taken this series when it may matter most. There was lots of good stuff for me to write about today!
Four Studs:
Garrett Crochet: You couldn’t have asked for a better start from him, and he was so efficient against the slumping Blue Jays that he was able to go 8 innings. His final line was 8 IP, 3 hits, 0 runs, 0 walks, and 6 strikeouts. He also hit 250 strikeouts season strikeouts and became the first Major League pitcher to do so this year!
Carlos Narvaez: Smacked a 3-run shot to center that iced the game for the Sox.
Masataka Yoshida: Hit an RBI double in the first and then his third home run of the season in the fifth. He’s picked an excellent time to heat up! OB and Loumer were talking about how well Yoshida hits in Toronto, but he really hits well in the home fields of opposing AL East teams. Check his track record!
Trevor Story: Went 3-5 today!
Three Duds:
Nathaniel Lowe: Went 0-4 with 2 Ks, but I can’t be too hard on him because he had a great game yesterday and was one of the main reasons why we won Game 1.
Payton Tolle: Gave up a solo shot to Isaiah Kiner-Falefa in the bottom of the ninth, and he had only hit one other home run all season long. Whoops. Fortunately it was a blow the Sox could easily withstand.
Vladimir Guerroro Jr./David Popkins: Got themselves ejected on what definitely was a correctly called third strike. Things are noticeably tense with the Blue Jays right now! And after things went the Sox’s way ump wise last night, I can’t totally blame them for being on edge, but of all the things to pick a fight about, that pitch was not worth the fight.
Play of the Game: Narvaez’s Three-Run Homer
Prior to this, the Blue Jays announcers had said the game was close, even though the Sox were up 4 runs. After this home run, the game wasn’t close anymore.
