Is Donald Trump at the Ryder Cup?
U.S. president Donald Trump, a known golf fan, is expected to be in attendance for the first day of the 2025 Ryder Cup, which is Friday, Sept. 26. The PGA of America reportedly invited Trump to the event.
On Aug. 23, Trump posted to TruthSocial that "it will be a great Ryder Cup" and "I will be there on Tournament Friday."Â
World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler recently said that as far as he knew, Trump was not expected to speak to the U.S. team before the tournament.
"The president is kind of funny," Scheffler said, according to ESPN. "He loves the game of golf. He loves supporting golfers, and I get a call or a text from him sometimes after wins. He just loves the game of golf, and he's one of those guys when you're around him, he does such a good job of, like, feeding confidence into everybody around him.
"I don't think he has any plans to address us as a team, but I'm sure if things go well, we'll hear from him this week."
Another member of the U.S. squad, captain Keegan Bradley, said he is "deeply honored" that Trump will be supporting the team in the Ryder Cup.
"I think anytime you can be around a current president is a pretty phenomenal thing, but when you're representing your country at a place like Bethpage Black in New York, having the president there to support you is something that is just absolutely incredible," Bradley said, per ESPN. I'm really grateful to him for doing that for us."

Ryder Cup security details
There is expected to be an increased security presence at Bethpage Black due to Trump's attendance. In a statement on Wednesday, fans were encouraged to "arrive as early as possible," and plan "extra time as they plan their day.”
Additionally, there will be additional screening at entrances and spectators will be “subjected to TSA-style screening points” around the clubhouse, adjacent grandstand and surrounding areas, per NBC Sports.Â
According to Yahoo, the items that are now banned for fans attending the Ryder Cup include:
- Portable folding chairs
- Large vaping devices
- Torch-style lighters
- Metal/hard plastic insulated beverage containers
- Large umbrellas
- Range finders
- Laptops and tablets
Ryder Cup potential delays
Given the president's attendance at an event that was already a hot commodity for fans, there are concerns over the the potential logistics for Friday at the Ryder Cup, including potential delays. However, per ESPN, because Trump isn't arriving until later in the day, organizers hope there won't be any many issues with delays.
When Trump attended the U.S. Open men's tennis final in New York earlier in the month, there was a delay of 37 minutes to start the match due to extra security measures, per ESPN, and "thousands of fans were still in security lines to get into the arena when the match started."
In a statement released Wednesday, the PGA of America advised fans to arrive as early as they can for the opening day of the Ryder Cup on Friday.
"Ticketed attendees are strongly urged to arrive as early as possible and should budget extra time as they plan their day. In addition to security screening at the entrance, spectators will be subjected to TSA-style screening points around the clubhouse, adjacent grandstand and surrounding areas," the statement said, per ESPN. "If spectators leave these secure areas, they will need to be screened again prior to reentering that area."
An official also said that guests should "expect temporary delays moving around publicly accessible areas inside and outside of the Bethpage Black Golf Course," according to NBC Sports.
However, even with any disruptions, there likely won't be a delay to the Ryder Cup action itself. Ryder Cup Director Bryan Karns told Front Office Sports last week that unlike the U.S. open, it's not viewed as a very realistic option to delay the start of the matches.
"We actually won’t be able to delay the tee times because we don’t have the evening,” Karns told Front Office Sports. “At Arthur Ashe Stadium, you can flip those lights on, you can go late. Whereas we don’t have that luxury of doing that, and you obviously want to make sure, if possible, you’re finishing both sessions on the day we start them so the fans can see it from start to finish.”
