OGC Nice have already been open about their difficulties in the recent transfer window. Both sporting director Florian Maurice and manager Franck Haise have said that the club didn’t necessarily do all the business that they wanted to do.
The club were limited financially and also missed out on some key players due to circumstances outside of their control. Speaking in a post-match press conference, attended by Get French Football News, Haise revealed that he tried to bring one of his former players to the club, Neil El Aynaoui.
The Moroccan midfielder, with whom he worked at RC Lens, lined up for AS Roma against Nice in the UEFA Europa League on Wednesday night. The Serie A side won that game 2-1.
El Aynaoui joined Roma from Lens over the summer in a deal worth just under €25m. But Haise has now revealed that he wanted the midfielder at the Allianz Riviera. “El Aynaoui was my priority [signing], but I won’t draw you a picture. There are players that we can sign, others that we cannot,” said Haise. El Aynaoui, clearly, fits into the latter category.
