Liverpool striker Hugo Ekitike is likely to be docked two weeks’ wages as the Reds are expected to fine him for his sending-off against Southampton in the third-round of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday, according to the Daily Mail. The Reds secured a 2-1 victory over the Saints at Anfield, with the Frenchman grabbing the winner in the 85th minute as the hosts continued their habit of leaving it late to win matches. However, Ekitike left Liverpool manager Arne Slot enraged by the red card after he was sent off for taking off his shirt to celebrate. The summer signing had been booked earlier in the second-half for dissent after punching the ball away when referee Thomas Bramall awarded a free-kick against him.
Ekitike will now miss the trip to Crystal Palace on Saturday when Premier League action resumes. Apart from being fined, the France international would also have got a dressing down from the dressing room, with Jeremie Frimpong pushing the 22-year-old in the chest after he pulled off his shirt. Liverpool vice-captain Andy Robertson also made his feelings clear after the game, and Ekitike has since taken to social media to apologise for the incident.
