Barcelona manager at odds with club over number nine signing

Despite having two of the most effective strikers in La Liga, much of the talk surrounding Barcelona’s plans for next summer surround the signing of number nine. Ferran Torres appears yet to earn the full trust of the Blaugrana to become the main striker, while Robert Lewandowski is set to leave the club at the end of his contract next summer.

It means Barcelona will be on the hunt for a long-term replacement, albeit with uncertainty over how much they will be able to spend on it. The Blaugrana have been linked with Atletico Madrid star Julian Alvarez, but in particular, he looks a cost-heavy option.

Hansi Flick keen on signing Serhou Guirassy

One of the options that has caught the eye of manager Hansi Flick is Borussia Dortmund striker Serhou Guirassy. BILD report that Flick believes he could be a good option for Barcelona, and the club are following him closely.

Joan Laporta disagreement

However President Joan Laporta diverges from the manager he has praised so often in this regard. He believes that if Barcelona are to recruit a number nine, then it should be a bigger name with more star power than Guirassy, who is now 29 and has had a rise to his current point, rather than a career in Europe’s biggest clubs.

Guirassy’s impressive goal record

Guirassy does have the numbers to back up his claim to being one of the best forwards in Europe though. Since scoring 30 goals in 30 games for Stuttgart two seasons ago, Guirassy has scored 43 goals and given 10 assists in his 56 appearances. Those numbers include 13 goals in the Champions League, and five already this season.

Flick is right to be impressed with the Guinean forward, given the performances he has put in against Barelona. Three times they faced each other last season, and Guirassy scored five goals in those clashes – and arguably could have had more in their away defeat to the Blaugrana.
