Royal Palm Beach's Giuseppe Puebla, Team USA close out Team Europe to win Junior Ryder Cup

The Americans wobbled early but regained their footing to handily defeat Team Europe in the 13th Junior Ryder Cup.

The Americans wobbled early in a rain-soaked final round of the 13th Junior Ryder Cup but found their footing to close out a victory in Glen Cove, New York.

Team USA defeated Team Europe ... on Thursday, Sept. 25 at Nassau Country Club to clinch America's eighth all-time victory in the esteemed international junior golf competition.

Singles matches were originally scheduled for the famed Bethpage Black Course but were relocated to Nassau Country Club, which hosted the first two days of the Junior Ryder Cup, due to forecasted inclement weather.

The Europeans, who entered the final round trailing 10-8, roared early Thursday, building a lead in nine of the 12 singles matches by the time the morning's first pairing hit the back nine.

Team USA turned the tide with strong play from its girls golfers.

Asterisk Talley and Anna Fang, the first two girls juniors off Thursday, led for much of the day and clinched the Americans' first singles points.

In the day's middle pairings, Team USA's Zoe Cusack and Rayee Feng trailed early but managed to build two-stroke leads on the back nine.

Cusack and fellow American Lunden Esterline closed out their matches around 12:30 p.m. ET to give Team USA a 14.5-10.5 lead, just a point away from the 15.5 needed for the Americans to win the cup.

With Team Europe dominating the final three pairings — Oscar Couilleau defeated Tyler Mawhinney of Florida 7 & 6 while Europeans were 5 up in each of the last two matchups — pressure fell to Team USA's Lily Peng, Hamilton Coleman and Feng to secure the clinching point.

The honor fell to Feng, who defeated Alice Kong 4 & 3 to seal American victory.

Team USA has won seven of the last eight Junior Ryder Cup competitions since 2008. Team Europe's victory in Italy in 2023 was its first since 2006.

Florida was well represented in this year's event with four players on the American squad, including Miles Russell, 16, Jacksonville Beach, Tyler Mawhinney, 17, from Fleming Island, Giuseppe Puebla, 16, from Royal Palm Beach, and Amelie Zalsman, 16, from St. Petersburg.

Here's a look at match results from the first two days of the Junior Ryder Cup:
