Earlier this month, Marc Bernal received a medical discharge after spending 382 days on the sidelines.
The youngster went on to make his return to the pitch by appearing as a substitute against Valencia. The midfielder, though, hasn’t appeared since as Barcelona continue to remain cautious with his fitness.
However, that hasn’t stopped the club from rushing in to secure his long-term future in Catalonia, as the Blaugrana believe the player is destined for bigger things.
Date set for Bernal’s renewal
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have set a date to announce the renewal of Bernal.
The youngster had already agreed terms for a new contract long ago. The new deal will see him remain in Catalonia until 2029, though it is nothing more than just an activation of a clause that extends his deal for three years.

As per the report, Barcelona are planning to announce the contract renewal of Bernal on September 29. The deal will also include a release clause of €500 million.
The announcement will be made a day after Barcelona’s home game against Real Sociedad, which will be played at Montjuic.
Bernal would ideally like to feature against Sociedad before the club announce the new deal, a day later.
The report, though, adds that Hansi Flick is in no hurry to start Bernal even at a time when the club are reeling with the absences of key midfielders Fermin Lopez and Gavi.
It appears the Catalans are planning on gradually getting Bernal up to speed, a formula that was applied to Gavi as well after he returned from a long injury layoff.
Bernal, though, will hope to avoid another injury like Gavi and will, therefore, have to play with caution, at least in the first few months of his return.
