PSD flag football freshman Jordyn Peterson is the Blue FCU Athlete of the Week after leading the Stars past an unbeaten team with a big receiving day.
This week's Blue Federal Credit Union Athlete of the Week award is headed back to the flag football field.
Poudre School District's Jordyn Peterson took top honors in the Fort Collins area for the week of Sept. 15-20 after leading her team past a previously-unbeaten team.
Peterson had three catches for 102 yards (the first 100-yard receiving game in PSD's young program history) and two touchdowns, including a 53-yard TD.
And those two scoring catches were both very necessary in the 12-7 win over Legacy, which had entered the game with an 8-0 record. Peterson scored all 12 of the Stars' points in the win.
It was a breakout performance for the freshman, who had three catches for 39 yards and one touchdown before shredding the Lightning defense.
PSD is off to a 6-1 start in the team's debut season and is knocking on the door of the Class 5A top 10, currently at No. 13 in CHSAA's selection and seeding index.
Peterson's recognition continues a big week for the Stars. Head coach Aaron Waters was also named the Denver Broncos' flag football Coach of the Week by CHSAA.
The Stars freshman is the second PSD flag football player to earn Athlete of the Week honors this season, joining teammate Marli Brenner. Keep an eye out for Peterson on the basketball court, as she's a burgeoning talent there as well.
An enthusiastic PSD fanbase showed out at the polls, pushing Peterson past a competitive field with 34.1% of the fan vote in a close race.
That propelled the Stars freshman past these other worthy Athlete of the Week nominees:
- Grace Brown, Rocky Mountain softball (runner-up at 29.4%)
- Landon Houska, Fossil Ridge boys golf
- Eliam Boyer, Windsor boys soccer
- Izzy Schimmelpfennig, Timnath girls cross country
The Blue Federal Credit Union Athlete of the Week series features five nominees on Mondays, with voting at Coloradoan.com until 11:59 p.m. every Wednesday.
