URI men's basketball lands 6-7 wing prospect Tim Martin Jr. from Cincinnati

Martin cut his list to three finalists last week, and URI won the race ahead of Ohio schools Cleveland State and Kent State.

Archie Miller is officially on the board to start his next recruiting class with the University of Rhode Island men.

Tim Martin Jr. announced his commitment to the Rams via social media Thursday afternoon. He’s a Class of 2026 small forward from Cincinnati.

Martin cut his list to three finalists last week, and URI won the race ahead of Ohio schools Cleveland State and Kent State. Martin is electing to leave home for the 2026-27 season after first receiving a scholarship offer from the Rams during the summer evaluation period.

“I am extremely blessed and excited to announce my commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Rhode Island,” Martin wrote. “I want to thank God for blessing me with the ability and strength to play the game I love.”

Martin also claimed offers from Miami (Ohio), Western Carolina and Florida International. He took campus visits with the Redhawks, Vikings, Golden Flashes and Brown starting in June. Martin’s official visit with the Rams over the first weekend of September was ultimately enough to sway him.

Martin is a 6-foot-7-inch wing prospect who preps at Summit Country Day. He earned postseason recognition with the Silver Knights, who reached the state semifinals under former Cincinnati guard Kevin Johnson. Martin was named to the Miami Valley Conference first team and was tabbed as one of the top players in Ohio’s District 16 and the state’s Southwest region.

URI basketball coach Archie Miller signals players from the sidelines.

Martin carried that good form into the Under Armour grassroots season with Nova Village. He averaged 7.8 points and 4.9 rebounds while helping his team reach the summer finals in the Chicago area. Martin opened a five-game stay there with 24 points and 10 rebounds in a win over Arizona Select, one of his five games scoring in double digits over the 2025 season.

Martin announced an offer from URI entering the third UA session in Georgia. Rams assistant coach James Whitford holds deep Midwest ties, including a decade apiece at Miami (Ohio) and Ball State. Whitford also spent eight combined seasons with Sean Miller at Xavier and Arizona.

The Rams have been active with multiple other targets in the 2026 class, and one of them selected a league rival later Thursday. New Jersey point guard Peyton Miller committed to George Mason after taking an official visit with the Rams last weekend for homecoming. Miller was also scheduled to visit Maryland in October.

Martin's commitment gives URI a head start on replacing a potential graduating class of seven scholarship players. Alex Crawford, Myles Corey, RJ Johnson, Tyler Cochran, Mouhamed Sow, Keeyan Itejere and Drissa Traore are all listed as seniors, redshirt seniors or graduate students on the roster. Walk-on guard Jimmy Ball is also set to depart at the close of the upcoming season.
