Aaron Glenn is in his first season as an NFL head coach.
Things haven't gotten off to the best start, as Glenn's New York Jets are in an 0-3 hole early in the season. However, the team has been competitive and definitely looks improved over their 2024 team.
Speaking of "competitive," the Jets took the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to the brink in Week 3. There was a wild sequence of events near the end of the game where the Jets blocked a field goal and returned it all the way back for a touchdown to take the lead.
During that run back, Glenn was caught on video doing a wild dance on the sidelines, and the coach quickly went viral. The coach was asked about the moment this week and expressed no regrets.
"Here's what I do know: That's why I'm going to always be me," Glenn said Thursday. "And, listen, these guys need someone that's going to show that they believe in them and that's going to show they're proud of them when they make plays.
"I'll tell you what, if I probably didn't do that, my wife and kids would have said, 'What's happening? What's going on with you?' I'm never going to be fake. I'm going to always be me.
"Some people like it, some people don't. It doesn't matter. But I'm glad that people can see me, my authentic self, no matter what. And I don't [know] what it means when some people say, 'Well, is a head coach supposed to act like that.' How is a head coach supposed to act? I don't know, but it was good. It was good."
It's definitely nice to see a coach show emotion and let his team know that he's invested. As Glenn said, he doesn't know how a coach is supposed to act, so he's going to keep being himself.
The players love it too, for what it's worth. Jets rookie tight end Mason Taylor said Glenn's passion "fired us up."
"It definitely shows the type of coach he is, bringing energy every single day. We love it. We love it as players."
Unfortunately, though, Glenn's celebration was a bit premature as his team ultimately fell to the Bucs 29-27. The next chance for Glenn to get his first win as a head coach will be against the Miami Dolphins in Week 4, who are also winless.
