Colorado Buffaloes football legend Shedeur Sanders isn't going to be playing for the Cleveland Browns against the Detroit Lions. Or any opponent until Dillon Gabriel gets his chance, which won't be imminent, barring a Joe Flacco injury.

Shedeur Sanders is still QB3 in Berea. And he isn’t going to be on the field with the Cleveland Browns any time soon.
Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot revealed the predictable update on Thursday ahead of the team’s matchup with the Detroit Lions on Sunday. Joe Flacco is still the starter, and Dillon Gabriel is still the likeliest rookie to step in, in case of an emergency.
“The third-string quarterback behind Joe Flacco and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel, Sanders was asked if he might be close to playing. The truth is, he has to wait his turn behind the other two, and will continue to serve as the inactive third quarterback for now, including for Sunday’s game in Detroit,” Cabot wrote.
Cabot revealed last week that Gabriel isn’t even close to seeing the field ahead of the Browns’ matchups against the Lions, Minnesota Vikings, and Pittsburgh Steelers. And at the time, the Green Bay Packers.
“I think it depends on how Joe looks over the next couple of weeks,” Cabot told host Anthony Kima on the “Ken Carman Show.” “I don’t think they’re in any rush to get Dillon out there. I think they’re in a stretch right now of four out of five games on the road. They’re facing three really tough NFC North teams, playoff teams, and great defenses. So, they have a lot of things going on right now.
“I think it behooves them to have a veteran presence in there. But certainly, he’s got to make sure that he’s protecting the football. That’s job number one. And if he can do that, then he’ll keep his job.”
Flacco leading Cleveland to a 13-10 victory over Green Bay last week likely delays any changes from Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski. Cleveland may have a good enough defense to ride a 40-year-old Flacco to the postseason. Just as they did two years ago when he was 38.
Gabriel will have to wait to get his opportunity. Sanders may have to wait indefinitely.
