Routes for Flying Pig marathon and half marathon to change in 2026. Here's why

Cincinnati's next Flying Pig Marathon and affiliated races will occur the weekend of May 1-3, 2026.

Cincinnati's Flying Pig marathon and half marathon routes will change in 2026, according to a statement on the race's website.

Pig Works, which produces the race and others in Cincinnati, said in the statement the changes are due to planned construction.

The nonprofit didn't provide details on the construction. However, the Fourth Street Bridge, which connects Newport and Covington over the Licking River and is on both race routes, closes in January 2026.

Participants run along Columbia Parkway out of Fairfax during the 2023 Flying Pig Marathon.

The structurally obsolete bridge will be demolished to make way for a new structure that likely won't open until 2028.

Pig Works didn't identify the new race routes in the statement.

An announcement on the 2026 routes will come closer to the event, Jackie Reau, CEO of Game Day Communications, confirmed.

This isn't the first time the marathon's route has changed since its debut in 1999. According to Reau, the route has changed several times due to construction, among other reasons.
