Chelsea are considering a surprise move for Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate as they look to bolster their centre back options according to reports.
The Blues lost Levi Colwill to an ACL injury before the start of the season in a huge blow, and despite Enzo Maresca’s pleas for a new centre back the Italian didn’t get his wish.
Chelsea’s start to the season has been plagued by defensive errors, and it seems they are already paying the price for not replacing Colwill.
Chelsea considering move for Liverpool star Ibrahima Konate
Chelsea tried to sign Dean Huijsen at the start of the summer, but the Spain international opted to join Real Madrid.
There were also links to Marc Guehi, but Chelsea never made an offer for the Crystal Palace captain, who saw a move to Liverpool collapse on deadline day.

Chelsea have previously been linked with Konate, who’s out of contract at Liverpool next summer, and journalist Graeme Bailey has reported the Blues are one of the clubs interested.
“The ideal scenario for Liverpool is a new contract for Konate and signing Guehi on a free, but this is football and obviously neither could happen,” he told TBR Football.
“Richard Hughes, though, has gone head-to-head with Europe’s finest this summer, bringing in the likes of Isak, Kerkez and Ekitike, Liverpool fear nobody, both on the pitch or off it.
“But with Konate, they are aware that it is not just the likes of Madrid and Munich who could try and make him an offer, but they accept that.
“Why wouldn’t someone like Chelsea make an offer if he is available on a free? Although clearly they hope it does not get to that point.”
Chelsea need to address centre back issue
The Blues reportedly set money aside in the summer for January in case they feel any areas of the squad need strengthening.

Centre back would be an ideal position to address in January, and the number of defensive errors being made already is alarming.
In the mean time Maresca will need to work with what he’s got and improve the current situation as Chelsea can’t afford to continue making these mistakes.
